An Internet Service for Road Warriors

An Internet service for road warriors. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. If you have a great WiFi enabled notebook PC…you can connect to the Internet from thousands of places…airports…hotels…coffee shops. The problem is…how many subscriptions…or a la carte access charges are you willing to pay for. It's a problem being tackled not by an ISP….but by Toshiba…one of the biggest makers of notebook computers. It is selling a service called ToshibaMyConnect. Mobile Solutions VP Raja Narayanan…subscribers…using any kind of notebook, not just Toshiba, can pay 39.95 a month….and be able to get online from just about anywhere…through wired, wireless or dial-up connections…

"The notion really here is that the places where you go and you are stuck and you have time to kill and you would naturally reach for your notebook to do some work and catch up with your email or what have you. Those are the locations we have covered. In addition, we have almost unlimited points of access…almost 15 thousand dial up and ISDN ports which are bundled in. So if you really get into a place where you don't have broadband…you can always dial up."

What's missing…is the inclusion of high speed access for your home through agreements with cable or DSL providers. But that may change…

"There is nothing for us to pre-announce at this time unfortunately, but we are definitely examining that model."
