A Matching Computer for Your iPod?

A matching computer for the iPod? Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Apple's iPods are the most popular digital music players on the market…helping its online music store iTunes to lead the pack as well. Now Apple is coming out with a sleek, snow white computer….designed by the same folks who created the iPod. The iMac G5…puts the computer behind an LCD screen…which is elevated by an aluminum base. CDs or DVDs simply load into a slot on the side. Senior product manger Jai Chulani…

"The iMac G5 really borrows all of the advancements we've made in the Power Mac line and brought it down to the consumer. So you can get processor speeds up to 1.8 GHz. The G5 really shines when you are doing media applications like photos and movies and music."

But don't look for anything like a media center Mac. To add TV and DVR capability, Mac users still have to turn to third party vendors…

"We talk to our customers all the time and really they're not asking for a TV tuner. Most people don't want to watch TV on their computer. For the few customers that want to watch TV of course on the Mac, there are great third party solutions available."

Apple's design once again…beats out most of the competition on the Windows side. Only Sony comes close. Prices start at about 13 hundred dollars. Whether the new iMacs will bring new customers to Apple the way the iPod and iTunes have….remains to be seen. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
