palmOne Keyboard....for PocketPCs?

Techstination feature for Monday, September 27, 2004

A wireless PDA keyboard. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. PalmOne, the company that makes the most popular PDAs….has created a new wireless keyboard. And it has designed it, so that it works with PocketPC devices that run Microsoft's rival operating system as well. PalmOne's Jim Schwabe…

"We've seen that the more successful ways of being broadly distributed through the retail chains is to provide a product that has multiple compatibilities. So we see ourselves in the accessories business being able to provide a cross platform product. So now, instead of taking your laptop on a trip, you can actually go take your keyboard, pocket sized keyboard folds in half and fits in a coat pocket or purse, with your handheld device and have full typing, five row, full size, full travel keyboard on the road."

The keyboard is priced at about seventy dollars…and will work with many older Palm devices as well…

"It'll work basically with any Palm OS 4.0 device and above. The key is having the IR port on the device, which all the Palm devices have. And all our current devices and past several generation devices will work with this keyboard."

PalmOne has also announced a new 400 dollar bundle….that includes a Zire 72 PDA along with Tom Tom GPS navigation hardware and software…along with a 64 megabyte memory card. If you bought the same equipment separately…the price would be about two hundred dollars more. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
