High tech toys for kids. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Back in the late 90s, Intel created a smart toy lab…that developed a variety of neat, high tech toys. A microscope and cameras and a voice synthesizer that connected to PCs. Then, in 2001, Intel decided to get out of the business of making toys and other consumer peripherals. Fortunately, some of the products live on….and have been updated by a company called Prime Entertainment, where CEO Tim Hall says….

"We sort of look at where the consumer electronics trends are heading for adults and we find ways to bring that to kids. We have a digital movie camera for kids called the Digital Blue Movie Creator. And for about 99 dollars, it's an actual video camera that kids can use and edit a complete movie on their computer. Another item we have is called the Mixman DM2. And it's a digital music mixing device that would be more appropriate for a teenager."

The products are sold under the Digital Blue brand name. There are binoculars that can take digital photos…and an updated digital microscope…the QX5

"We've improved the resolution and the lighting feature in it and just made it a stronger product. We expect it to get used not just in schools but in universities across the world."
