A Router That Keeps You Connected

Techstination feature for Tuesday, November 16, 2004

Staying connected to your home network. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Several companies are selling solutions like GoToMyPC or LogMeIn that act as go betweens…to let you access your office computer from home or vice versa. Monthly subscriptions are required to be able to transfer files and such. Now Buffalo Technologies has announced a hardware solution….the AirStation Wireless Secure Remote Gateway…that gets rid of subscription fees…while allowing you to connect from anywhere. Buffalo VP Morikazu Sano…

"Our router allows you to get into your desktop. Your home desktop remotely. So you are at the remote location and you are connecting to your home PC as if you were at home. You can get to your files to do some work. Or lets say you forgot some presentation files at your home or office and you need it right now. You can connect to the home PC remotely through our router. And you can acquire the file."

The router also uses what Buffalo calls AOSS technology to make your wireless network secure with the push of a button…

"It's only 90 seconds. Within 90 seconds. Just pressing the button and clicking the mouse…and done."

Keep in mind the AOSS works only if you are using Buffalo Technology's wireless cards and such. The Secure Remote Gateway sells for about two hundred dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
