New Plug-in For Online Shoppers

Techstination feature for Tuesday, November 30, 2004

A new plug-in for online shoppers. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. There are a number of comparison shopping Web sites out there. Shopzilla.com indexes prices with reviews of products. Yahoo offers shopping.yahoo.com. And there are more. Now a company called the Shelron Group is offering a comparison shopping plug-in for Internet Explorer. It's called Activshopper. CEO Eliron Yaron…

"Sometimes you see a banner or you see an ad in the newspaper and you're going to just enter a Web site or e-shop and you're going to buy there. In the minute that you are going to purchase, let's say you found a digital camera for 500 dollars and the minute you are going to check out…we pop up and we tell you that we found the same product for let's say 10, 20 percent cheaper and we show you the products and the link to the other shops that sell the same products automatically."

Right now, Activshopper, that's spelled with no e in the middle, works with books and electronics and computers. DVDs and music will be added in the near future according to Yaron. He says the free plug-in is not used to collect information…

"We decided to be honest with the shopper. We don't collect any information, we are just there to help find a better deal while he shops."

You can find it at activshopper.com. The company makes money when you click on those alternative merchants. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
