Another New Search Engine

Techstination feature for Thursday, December 9, 2004

Another new search engine enters the fray. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. When it comes to Internet searching, Google still rules the roost. Yahoo! is its main competition….with Microsoft's new search engine still in the testing phase. Now comes a new search tool called Accoona. CEO Stuart Kauder…says the site uses artificial intelligence to come up with better results…

"Not all keywords typed into a query string have the same meaning or importance to people. So if I do a query and there are one or two words within that query that have greater importance to me, I could then check a box, and then allows you to get those results or go to those pages that have greater emphasis on those terms."

Former Compaq Computer CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer is Accoona's chairman. While the site can be used as a search engine in the same fashion as Google or Yahoo!, Kauder says Accoona is lined to one of the world's largest databases of online business information….

"A feature in our search engine is called quick profile where you click it and it brings up the quick profile of a company. That quick profile contains the company name, phone number, description of the business, number of employees, revenue, etcetera."

China Daily is its partner. It's all free, as are other search engines, to the user. You can find the site at Accoona.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
