Planning Holiday Get-Togethers Online

Techstination feature for Wednesday, December 15, 2004

Planning holiday get togethers …online. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With all of the rushing around during the holidays, sometimes it can be hard to work out times and places to meet with friends or family members you'd really like to see. Evite, an online service that's been around since 1997, can help. Product manager Jessica Landy says the site has a new social networking feature….

"Everyone that you've ever attended an event or shared a guest list with on Evite, now is part of what we're calling your social network. And that will power the recommendations on our site. It's free to use if you log onto Evite.com and sign in. We have what we call a people to see tab and you can click on that and within that there's what we call the Evite network. And that's a list basically of all the people you've ever shared a guest list with. You can see their picture, people have created profiles telling you their favorite restaurants, their favorite bars, their favorite party drinks. Things about them. And from there, you can click on places to see and places to go. And that's where we have all our restaurants and bars and venues on our site."

Last minute invitations are no problem when they are going through the Internet to email addresses. Another useful site…for sending holiday cards or invitations through the regular mail…when you can't find an address…is whitepages.com. It allows you to create an online addressbook as well that can sync with Outlook on your PC. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
