Wearing Your Digital Music

Techstination feature for Tuesday, December 21, 2004

Wearing your music. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. MP3 music players have been hot items this holiday season…with Apple's iPod line continuing to lead the pack. But there are ways to take your tunes along….by simply wearing them. Oakley is selling sunglasses…they call Thump… with built in MP3 players. The earphone buds are attached to the frames….so no more dangling wires. And TechnoTunes….is selling stylish watches….that double as MP3 players. Company president John DiGangi…

"It's an MP3 player watch that has 256 storage capability. The watch comes in various styles from very modern to basic contemporary styles."

Men's and women's versions are available. You simply plug the watches into a USB port to transfer songs…and charge the built in battery at the same time. The sound is impressive. But one problem is the idea of having a wired headset running from your ears to your wrist to listen. DiGangi says there will be an attachment coming soon…that will do away with the wires. Coolness and convenience do have their price. Pricing for the 256 megabyte watches starts at about 200 dollars. That's more than similar capacity pocket sized players. And if you want those Oakley Thump sunglasses….be prepared to pay at least 400 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
