Digital Art For Your Home

Techstination feature for Thursday, December 23, 2004

Digital art for your home. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It was a dream of Bill Gates…that not so long ago only he could afford. Having vast collections of art available on digital screens in his home. Now a company called Beon Media has begun offering a service called GalleryPlayer to owners of media center PCs. Founder and CEO Scott Lipsky….

"Media Center is our first launch platform. If you have Media Center, you'll be able to just go right into Gallery Player and subscribe to our service. In early 2005, we'll be launching a general Windows application, Gallery Player for Windows, you'll be able to go to GalleryPlayer.com and download and start playing your art. And we're also already in a cable trial with a major cable operator."

With the service designed for consumer with high definition screens. Subscription prices start at about five dollars a month. Users can download images to their permanent collections for 99 cents….for everything from Van Gogh to Andy Warhol to Ansel Adams. The plan is to give subscribers access….to special museum collections and exhibits as well…

"What we're creating is a full experience. If you walk into a museum, you're getting a curated experience of an exhibit of art. And that's what we're creating. We're creating the digital home gallery for consumers to have these digital canvases hanging on the wall…turn them into truly art canvases."

There are other solutions for high definition screens. A company called Roku, for instance, sells a three hundred dollar HD digital media player…with art packs. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
