What to Do With Those Holiday Digital Photos

Techstination feature for Monday, December 27, 2004

Now that you've taken all of those holiday digital pictures… what will you do with them? Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. One of the great things about digital cameras is… you can take lots and lots of photos without having to buy more film. A lot of people simply leave their images stored on their computers….and email them to friends and family. One thing you should always do…is back up your pictures onto CDs or DVDs…if you have a DVD burner. That will keep you from losing all of those photos if your hard drive crashes. They all eventually will. You can make prints at home. Most ink jet printers do the job very well. And if you are using Windows XP, Microsoft has included an Online Print Wizard that can send your images to photo centers for professional printing. Product manager Howard Locke…says the wizard is now linked to Fujifilm's Get the Picture Online ordering service..

"It offers in store delivery to about five thousand retail locations in the United States. And so now what the consumer does is after they've launched the wizard they select their pictures and then they're asked whether they want to have the pictures delivered to their home by mail or if they want to pick them up at a store near them. They put in their zip code and they are given a list of stores, participating retailers in their area."

So you can send your pictures in online…and pick them up…in some cases in just an hour…at a nearby store. Pricing varies by retailer, but typically the cost is about 29 cents for a 4 by 6 print. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
