Safeguarding your PC. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Viruses and spyware have been big headaches for computer users. If you aren't taking precautions…with firewalls, anti-virus software and using software to eliminate spyware…you are likely to run into trouble sooner or later. Centurion Technologies is selling a solution it calls DriveShield Plus. The company's Tim Derstine says the concept behind the package is straight forward…it prevents any unwanted changes to your PC….

"Once you have the machine set up the way you want it to be, you install and enable our software. The software will then protect, on a proactive fashion, any changes that would be made to that machine."

The software sets up a separate area on the hard drive where you save your files to… in that way…the operating system and programs you have installed are protected from changes. The solution may seem more drastic and cumbersome than some other competing software. But in the long term…in may save time and a lot of frustration.

"Most of the protection software out there are reactive. They have to identify the malware, the problem with the computer before they can fix it. Ours, doesn't care about the problems. If it's not part of the defined configuration, if it's not part of the perfect system that user wants, it discards it."

The software sells for sixty dollars. You can download a free trial at centuriontech.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
