"The term we have for it in house is Windows arthritis. When you have a Windows computer, when you first turn it on, it's lovely, it's fast, you have a lot of free space. Everything runs great. And then slowly, over time, things just inevitably start to get bogged down."
And that's why product manager Matthew Covington says Allume Systems created a package called Boost XP…
"There are options in there that help you clean up Windows, that help you optimize Windows, there are protections in there that help you increase the security of your computer. And there are also some things in there that let you customize your desktop, customize the look and feel of Windows. It basically gathers together functionality you might find in a bunch of different shareware utilities into a single product."
One of the features parents might appreciate is a tool that can block kids from being able to change system or Internet Explorer settings. While many of the functions are already built into Windows…they are seldom used because it isn't always easy to find them. Boost XP sells for an affordable 30 dollars.
