Can Apple Maintain the Momentum

Can Apple maintain the momentum. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Apple Computer sold about four and a half million of its iPod digital music players during the last three months of 2004. In fact…Chief Executive Steve Jobs says…

"Another amazing thing happened last quarter. This is Amazon's top five consumer electronics products. Three of them were from Apple."

So what can the company do to keep it going? At the company's recent Mac World conference…Jobs announced new, less expensive iPods that use flash memory instead of hard drives. A 512 megabyte model will sell for 99 dollars…while a one gigabyte version will go for 149. Jobs also announced Apple's lowest priced computer ever. The five hundred dollar Mac mini…

"The Mac mini is BYODKM. What does that mean? It means bring your own display, keyboard and mouse. We supply the computer, you supply the rest."

Apple is hoping buyers will opt to purchase LCD monitors to go with the small computer….and perhaps a wireless keyboard and mouse. That could bring the price up to about a thousand dollars. As is usually the case…there's a cool factor to Apple's unique design. With the new pricing, the company is trying to turn browsers…who come into its stores to look at iPods…into buyers.
