With a little help from Intel…PC makers keep chasing after Apple. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. When it comes to style and design, Apple Computer continues to be far ahead of the personal computer competition on the Windows side. IMacs and Mac Minis look better than any other computers you can buy. Sony's Vaio computers are about the only Windows machines that come close. Intel is doing what it can to change that. Its research team creates a variety of concept PCs…and turns the designs loose to computer makers. One of the latest concept PCs created by Intel is about the size of a paperback book….and has a wireless keyboard. Consumer education manager Ralph Bond…

"Some of the latest concepts we have are in mobility. For example we have an on the go mobile computer, a tiny little slate. It's about maybe 5 or 6 inches by 8 or 9 inches across. When you flip down the armature and put a keyboard with it, it can be a fully functional desktop computer. Flip the armature on the back up and it can go into your purse, your backpack, your notebook, briefcase, whatever. Or again you could bring the little, slate thin keyboard and have it be a regular personal computer."

Intel has designed a docking station for the PC that can be used in cars as well. How quickly Intel's designs are used by manufacturers varies. But too many manufacturers seem to be in no hurry to follow Apple's lead…even with Intel's assistance…

"Clearly Apple has been great in terms of bringing style and design and flair to their products. No doubt about it. What has Intel been doing? For many, many years we had innovative awards. We continue to do that."
