New Photo Printer From Epson

Techstination feature for Tuesday, May 10, 2005

A new photo printer from Epson. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's been about a year since Epson introduced its original PictureMate printer. It broke ground allowing consumers to make 4 by 6 prints at home at drugstore prices… 29 cents apiece. It's portability also helped to make it a best seller during the holiday season last year. Now Epson has a new model…for about fifty dollars more than the original 200 dollar price. Product manager Fabia Ochoa…

"And basically what you get for the fifty dollars more is the built in, beautiful 2.4 inch color viewer which allows you to preview the photos before printing them. You also have an internal battery option so that this makes this product a little bit more portable than the original PictureMate. You can take it on the go anywhere without having to be connected to the AC. Plus you have other special features built into the PictureMate Deluxe. You get a lot more value for just 50 dollars more."

Another neat feature…the ability to back up photos from memory cards…by plugging in an external cd writer..or flash memory drive… directly into the printer's USB port…

"So you can actually produce your photo CDs as well as your prints, all without a computer with these products."

What printer manufacturers like Epson, Hewlett Packard, Lexmark and Canon and battling are falling prices at digital print kiosks in stores. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
