A Notebook That Connects From Almost Anywhere

A notebook that connects from almost anywhere. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The latest addition to Sony's Vaio line of notebook PCs is the VGN-T350….and what makes it different is its ability to connect to the Internet using a built in cellular connection. Mike Abary is the general manager of the Vaio line…

"We are basically running off of Cingular's Edge Network, which is the fastest nationally deployed data network in the country."

An unlimited service package runs about 80 dollars a month. The three pound notebook also has built in Wi-Fi, an optical drive and will ship next month in silver or burgundy for about 22 hundred dollars. Who will the buyers be?

"We are aiming it at the highly mobile professional user who travels frequently, not necessarily on a plane, perhaps even on a train or a traveling salesperson in a car and has a need for data connectivity or Internet connectivity anywhere that person is."

It's an alternative to wireless add on cards sold by Cingular, Sprint and Verizon. One downside is that the built in celluar radio can't be upgraded to faster networks as they are rolled out.
