Well we haven't decided which territory we're going to be launching the Playstation3 in first. Or which territories. Traditionally we've launched all of our products first in Japan, then in the United States and Europe then after that. But we'll be making those announcements as to which territories in the coming months." Are there issues with the production of the Cell chip, the Cell processor that will power the Playstation3, in terms of working out your release timetable? "It's more an overall logistical issue of production of obviously the Cell chip, but also the assembly."
And while Microsoft will have the edge in getting to market first this time…Hirai says….
"We have had a winning combination of great technology, great software and a lot of customer support. And I think we're going to be able to leverage that very effectively going on with the Playstation3 and keep the leadership position for the next ten as well."
