"From an end user, it's going to give you a really great experience. It's going to allow you to do more. You can do multitasking. I can play a game and record a TV show in the background. Or I can watch a TV show that I've recorded on my PC and play back that TV show in another room through a digital media adaptor over a home network."
PCs have already been able to do those things, but dual core processors will improve performance and should result in fewer glitches. And Intel says pricing…won't be much higher…
"That's one of the great things is we're adding this capability and the end user will be able to buy it in mainstream price points. So a thousand dollar PC will have dual core processors in it. You'll see, of course, a range of pricing from our OEM customers, but that dual core capability is something that we're just bringing as a capability, enhancing the platform."
And dual core processors are just the start. The strategy is to move to multi-core processors to increase performance in the future. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
