Is there still life in tablet PCs? Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Microsoft first introduced the Tablet Edition of Windows back in 2002….predicting it wouldn't be long before just about all notebook PCs were tablets. But the public hasn't taken to the idea of using handwriting instead of a keyboard. Tablet PCs, according to Gartner research….accounted for just 1.2 percent of notebook sales last year. But now Lenovo… is out with its first ThinkPad…since it purchase IBM's personal computer business….and low and behold….it's a tablet! The new ThinkPad X41 weighs in at just three and a half pounds…and is just over an inch thick. And about the decision to go with a tablet, Worldwide ThinkPad program director Rob Herman tells us…

"The main reason was because our customers asked us to. There's vertical industries like pharmaceuticals, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing… and within those vertical industries there are usages that are best optimized around the tablet."

And while the concept hasn't caught on yet with consumers, Herman thinks it still can…

"I never really expected myself to want to use the tablet. But as I've gotten to use it more, I've found that this is the system that I'm actually going to use."

Equipped with an optional 8 cell battery, Lenovo says the X41 can run for six hours. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
