Ignore the need for security software? Not many people are doing that any more. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With all of the publicity surrounding computer viruses, spyware and such these days, fewer consumers are ignoring the need to protect their PCs. At Computer Associates, which makes a variety of corporate and personal software security packages, chief operating officer Jeffrey Clarke says…

"The bottom line is, you need to be connected today. That's the way we live, the way we communicate. With a Blackberry, or your iPod or laptop or even at the office. And at the end of the day you need these technologies in order to go forward and you're going to have to protect your assets, just as you protect your house."

Computer Associates, like rivals such as Symantec and McAfee, sells a security bundle. It's ezArmor combined with PestPatrol sells for about 70 dollars. It may soon face competition from Microsoft, which is planning to begin testing its own security software later this year. Says Clarke…

"Microsoft brings good technology and I think in many ways, them joining some of these markets will help drive the market forward."
