"The model Optura 600 will have the highest resolution still capability Canon's ever offered in a video camera. At 4 megapixels with a 10 power optical zoom, image stabilized, with manual focus controls, auto bracketing, 3 and a half frames per second motor drive, it is a still camera that stands very much on its own."
The camera has a suggested retail price of about 11 hundred dollars. Canon faces competition from still camera models that are being equipped to take higher quality video. For the first time, the company is introducing camcorders that save directly onto DVD discs. Sony and some others have been at that for a while. Sagud says…
"The market research that we have done has shown that this technology, this DVD acquisition design, has penetrated the market close to 20 percent, 18.7 percent. And the reason for it is simplicity in playback, convenience of use."
