Turning Your PC Into a Golf Simulator

Turning your PC into a golf simulator. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's not the first time my computer has gotten me teed off. But this time it was fun. A company called Electric Spin has created the most realistic golf simulation device for home computers to date…. The Golf Launchpad. It's a solidly built pad that's kind of like the tee at a driving range….with the ball tethered to a swiveling metal base. You swing with your own golf clubs…and sensors detect how you've hit the ball. Electric Spin CEO Anees Munshi….

"The system then optically tracks your swing, observes the moment of impact with the ball, analyzes that for things such as club speed, acceleration, path, face angle, all of those things…computes where the ball would have gone … then sends the data to the PC and you can visualize your shot in Tiger Woods 2004 which comes with the Launchpad…and '05 and '06 will be compatible as well."

Until now, the Golf Launchpad, which sells for about 250 dollars, has been available mostly in Golf Pro shops. Munshi says it will arrive in consumer electronics stores later this year and a version for PlayStation game consoles will be available as well. Electric Spin does have competition….Xavix is out with a golf game for its own console. It does not use real clubs….and does not work with third party software. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
