Olympus Updates the Evolt

Techstination feature for Wednesday, October 5, 2005

Olympus updates the Evolt. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. One of the fastest growing categories in digital camera sales….is the SLR….sinlge lens reflex…digital versions of those film cameras that had interchangeable lenses. The latest from Olympus is the Evolt E-500….an update to the E-300…with a bigger LCD screen, faster response and a variety of other new features. It's an 8 megapixel camera…and with a two lens kit, it's priced at under 900 dollars. Professional photographer and Olympus visionary Mark Greenberg…says the digital technology is helping to fuel the demand for higher end cameras…

"I think what's happened today is people have found they're all becoming better photographers. They're all really getting bit by the photography bug. And so they're looking for that next step up and the major camera manufacturers have addressed that with low priced SLR cameras."

Among the unique features….a dust reduction system that shakes dust away from the image sensor. Greenberg says with any digital camera…one of the best things you can do to improve your pictures…is simply to make sure the lens is clean. Other tips…buy the biggest memory card you can afford, shoot at the highest resolution your camera allows and…

"Shoot, shoot, shoot and shoot. Don't just be comfortable with taking that one shot and feel as though you might be bothering somebody. It's probably your family anyway. Just keep working the angles."

And with digital…you're not using up film…and you only need to print the shots that work. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
