Camcorders for kids. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Usually, moms and dads are the ones taking pictures and video. But more and more companies are making toys using digital technology that put kids on the other side of the camera. Hasbro's VCam Now….looks most like the kind of camcorder designed for grown-ups. Designed for kids 6 and up….it stores stills and video to flash memory…and even has a flip out LCD screen. Both Oregon Scientific and Digital Blue….have tube shaped cameras designed to strap onto helmets….to let kids record their adventures while skateboarding…or bike riding. Digital Blue...a company that was spun off from Intel a few years ago….hopes its branding agreement with Tony Hawk…of skateboarding fame…will pay off. Chief Executive Tim Hall…

"It comes with software that lets you take your video and put yourself next to Tony Hawk. So if I'm skateboarding in my backyard, I can edit my video and be right next to Tony Hawk and make it look like we're skateboarding together. Cause that's what skateboarders do…they film each other doing tricks and doing jumps and skating together."

Digital Blue has partnered with American Idol in selling a camcorder for singing performances. About the new competition, Hall says….

"The bigger companies are now following us, which is fine, cause we make better products. But there's a lot of competition now because we're all seeing the same research, which is, kids are leaving traditional toys at a younger age and they're getting into electronics."
