Best of What's New

Techstination feature for Friday, December 2, 2005

What's the Best of What's New? Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The December edition of Popular Science magazine is its most widely read issue of the year. Something akin to the swimsuit issue put out by Sports Illustrated. But at Popular Science ...the attraction is the annual listing of the Best of What's New. And when it comes to the home entertainment, and gadget categories...says senior technology editor Suzanne Kantra...grand awards went to Microsoft for the Xbox 360 and to Sony for the Playstation Portable...

"It is an entertainment platform where you can watch movies, you can browse the Web, in addition to having probably the best graphics and gaming performance on a handheld that we've seen to date."

Another winner...from the photography category...Kodak's EasyShare One. What's so different...

"We're talking about WiFi. We're talking about wireless connectivity. And we've seen from both Nikon and Canon the ability to send your pictures wireless to a printer or to a computer. But Kodak goes a step beyond with their EasyShare One by being able to upload photos to a gallery, so online photo viewing and also emailing directly from the camera. And we're going to be seeing that. Un-tethering is something that's going to be a big trend in the future."

Razer's Copperhead super high resolution mouse ...also garnered a Best of What's New award. With seven control buttons...and lights surrounding it...the 80 dollar mouse is designed for hard core PC gamers. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
