New Deals for Tivo

Techstination feature for Friday, December 16, 2005

New deals for Tivo. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With DirecTV now pushing its own recorder boxes for subscribers….Tivo has been busy finding ways to attract new customers…and keep the ones it has loyal. It has forged a variety of agreements to turn Tivo boxes in digital media hubs in the home….bringing your digital music and photos into the family room….and allowing subscribers to take TV programs they have recorded…onto portable devices. VP Jim Denny….

"Earlier this year we announced Tivo to Go and Tivo to Go allowed you to transfer shows from your Tivo DVR to your PC, so you can take them with you on the road. And then mid-year, we announced that we work with Microsoft portable media centers. So that if you use Tivo to Go, you can synchronize those shows with your Microsoft portable media center. And then just recently we added support for a couple more portables, one of which is the video iPod and the other is the Sony Playstation Portable. So effectively adding support for more portables that allow you to take your shows with you on the go."

The iPod and the PSP are two of the hottest gadgets this holiday season. What has been frustrating for many consumers who purchased DirecTV boxes with Tivo built in….is that DirecTV has not enabled Tivo to Go or digital content sharing capability. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
