Microsoft vs Google in 2006

Techstination feature for Friday, December 30, 2005

The championship battle shaping up for 2006….Microsoft vs. Google. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. At the upcoming annual Consumer Electronics Show….Microsoft chairman Bill Gates will give his usual opening speech. But Google co-founder Larry Page will get the last word…delivering the last keynote address of the event. It wasn't too long ago, when many viewed Linux as the biggest threat to the Microsoft empire. Now …enemy number one….is Google. Former Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Rick Belluzzo, who now heads Quantum Corp, tells us…

"In our increasingly interconnected world, if you think about the growth of wireless and WiFi and all the additional new wireless solutions, there will be a time when we're just all wirelessly connected. And when we're always connected, I think the needs for an operating system change. And I think solutions and offerings like what Google delivers …and Google can build on top of that… will become increasingly a threat to Microsoft."

Google won a battle over Microsoft in bidding to take a stake in America Online. But Microsoft isn't standing still. It plans to deliver new software…Windows Live and Office Live that will delivered via the Internet….supported by online advertising….hoping to take some of that money away from Google. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
