High definition on a media center PC. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. While companies like Microsoft and Intel have been touting the great audio and video capabilities of media center computers…Intel calls its new platform Viiv….one of the problems they've faced has been the computers have only been able to receive off air HD signals. The problem is…most consumers get their TV from either cable or satellite. At ATI Technologies, the number two maker of graphics chips, they been working with the cable industry on a solution. And says the company's John Swinimer…

"ATI is working with partners like Microsoft, with the cable companies themselves, to have an add on for the computer to allow you to receive high definition premium content on your PC. This product will be available later on in 2006." But you're fairly confident that this will happen, that you'll have a product out there offering this? "Yes, absolutely. ATI has great relationships with the cable industry, through our digital television group. We are in high end televisions like Sony and Samsung, driving the big TVs."

Look for more information in the weeks to come. ATI by the way is the company that makes the graphics chips for Microsoft's Xbox 360 game consoles. It's also working on a new device to make moving video content onto handheld players…such as the video iPod, more simple. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
