Video Games on the Cheap

Techstination feature for Tuesday, January 10, 2006

Video games on the cheap. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With video games….like those made for the Xbox 360….going up in price…to as much as 60 dollars apiece…some consumers are looking for less expensive alternatives. A company called Wild Tangent has made a business of creating downloadable games that are designed for what CEO Alex St. John calls…the casual gamer….

"The games we make are meant to be very light, easy play. It's for people who only have a little time to enjoy a game and don't want to spend hours and hours and hours trying to drill through many levels and so forth. So the content's very light play. It has modern production value so it looks like a console game. 3D graphics beautifully rendered. But the games are very small, so even if you have a modem you can download most of them. And they run on modern PCs, they use the 3D hardware on the PC, and the content's mostly targeted for the family. So you'll see light game play like Polar Bowler. (sound)"

With most titles from Wild Tangent at Wildgames.com, you can try free demo versions before you buy. St. John, by the way, came from Microsoft where he was responsible for the company's multimedia strategy. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
