"There were two fundamental problems. One is content. There were a lot of people trying to do this before with a large lack of premium content available over the Internet in high def format. The other was…there was not sufficient processing performance to be able to deliver that content in a way that protected the ownership rights of the content provider over time." So you feel your new hardware and software strategy, the Viiv platform is going to change that? "Absolutely. I think what we did with Viiv was raise the threshold of performance, bring in the content and also put in place the software infrastructure to be sure that content could be protected end to end and moved around the house in a seamless fashion so that you could enjoy that anywhere you want."
The platform will allow owners to watch high definition highlights of NBC's Winter Olympics coverage…and later this year…content from DirecTV…
"What we're bring today in terms of new content and new capability is pretty exciting, but boy, it's only going to get bigger as the wave of creativity is unleashed behind this."
