Turning a PSP….into a TV. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Sony's Playstation Portable or PSP has attracted lots of buyers as a handheld game machine….that can also play movies on what are called UMD discs. But the latest update to the player….which owners can download for free….adds a Web browser and the ability to connect wirelessly to Sony's LocationFree TV system. LocationFree started out as a package that uses a base station to transmit video and audio to a portable LCD screen…in the home or over the Internet. Now….a base station alone can be purchased that can transmit….to a PSP unit….or to a PC. Marketing Director Robert Bartels…

"The screen and the base station together is about fifteen hundred dollars and now you have just the base station and the software which is only for about 350 dollars. It really allows a whole new range of customers to try out this technology and get a chance to use it."

It's a similar concept to the Slingbox…sold by Slingmedia. But Bartels points out…the LocationFree base station…is a full wireless access point….and….

"Our base station actually has multiple video inputs. You can connect and switch up to three video sources. You can have your TV, a DVD player, a DVR.."
