Video Games for Babies...VTech

Techstination feature for Monday, February 20, 2006

Don't look now…. A video game system is on the way for babies as young as nine months. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. VTech has unveiled a new console that will go on sale this summer….called the V.Smile Baby Infant Development System. Marketing VP Julia Fitzgerald….

"We start with this great fun panel that's very interactive for babies…really 9 months up to 36 months. And it allows babies to use their fingers to explore sounds, noises and basic curriculum for a child. Where V.Smile Baby really gets interesting is when this big play panel becomes really almost a remote. It's totally wireless and interacts with a console that mom plugs into the television. The magic happens when she puts in a Baby Smartridge. And mom and baby are playing with this play panel and all of these bright colors, shapes, sounds, numbers…all appear on the television and they can learn together."

VTech is partnering with Baby Einstein for some content. The system can also be used to help teach baby's sign language….

"Baby sign language has become a huge trend in the U.S. And really what it allows mom to do is find ways to communicate with their youngster, even before they're able to speak."

V.Smile Baby will sell for about 40 dollars with additional so called Smartridges priced at 15. VTech is also expanding its V.Smile learning game console line…for 3 to 7 year olds….with a new model called V.Flash…designed for kids 8 and up. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
