"This is a camera that replaces the current A520. Now the 520 camera had 4 megapixel resolution with a 1.8 inch screen and a 4X optical zoom. This camera, at virtually the same price, is going to have 6 megapixel resolution and a 2 and a half inch screen to go with that 4 times optical zoom lens. So it's definitely a significant step up in capability." And the importance and why consumers want a bigger screen? "Well by having the bigger screen, first of all, it does make the picture a lot easier to see when you're composing it. And also it makes the text on the screen, to be able to check the settings, a lot bigger and easier to read. And the research that we've had from the focus groups that we've conducted is that anything that makes the cameras easier to use is welcome."
Amid stiff competition, Canon is adding other new features to some models. The SD700 will have optical image stabilization…while the SD430….will add the ability to send photos wirelessly from one camera to another. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
