Online College Tutoring... From India

Techstination feature for Wednesday, March 29, 2006

College tutoring help….from India. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Many U.S. companies have turned to India for well educated, but relatively inexpensive help to man call centers and such. A new Web site called StudyLoft.com is taking that same approach to offer math and science tutoring…via the Internet…to college students. StudyLoft principal Bikram Roy….

"StudyLoft.com is a 24/7 online tutoring service that connects students with professionally trained and graduate level instructors. It gives them timely assistance when they need it which has proven to be more conducive to optimum learning."

The one to one tutoring is done using instant messaging and white board applications. And the price…18 dollars an hour… is well below what a tutor might otherwise cost.

"So far, we have over five thousand registered members and that's just strictly through Googling and that kind of advertising. Where we're headed in the future is actually marketing to the colleges. And we have a couple deals in place right now where the school would provide it for their students. And it just makes sense to them because of higher retention rates. Right now most tutoring centers close about 8 pm."

About the time, he says, most students just get started studying. Subjects offered range from calculus and statistics….to biology, chemistry and physics. More areas are planned. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
