Another New Treo From Palm

Techstination feature for Monday, May 15, 2006

Another new Treo from Palm. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Palm is out with the 700P….which like its cousin, the Treo 700W….can use high speed EVDO data networks. But unlike the 700W….it will be sold by Sprint as well as Verizon Wireless…..and instead of Windows Mobile from Microsoft….it will use the Palm operating system. Product manager Steve Sinclair….says besides those differences….

"The Treo 700P has a higher resolution screen, 320 by 320 TFT display. So it displays pictures and videos in just amazing clarity and color."

Unlike the 700W, however, the new PDA phone can't use Palm's add-on WiFi card. It can be used as an EVDO modem for a PC or notebook using either a USB cable…or a wireless Bluetooth connection. About the differences between buyers of the 700W and the 700P, Sinclair says…

"The 700W was meant to increase our market share. So the 700W may appeal more to the enterprise customer. But what we think is both phones appeal to the fast forward business professional who is looking for something that can work both for business purposes and for lifestyle purposes."

Palm…which has been gaining market share….faces plenty of competition…from Research in Motion's BlackBerry…Nokia and Motorola's new Q phone. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
