AMD Keeps up the Pressure

Techstination feature for Monday, June 12, 2006

AMD keeps up the pressure. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. AMD has been gaining ground on Intel and isn't showing any signs of slowing down. The company has announced that it will be out with new quad-core processors next year. And it is working with PC makers…including HP, Gateway, Acer, Dell's Alienware and Velocity….on newly branded home entertainment computers. It sounds a lot like Intel's Viiv platform AMD is calling its version AMD Live. Desktop brand manager Teresa de Onis…

"We're really promoting the ideas to mainstream consumers around organizing all of your digital media and content on your PC and the ability and capabilities to distribute that content throughout the home and on the go. And all of these PCs are powered by our award winning Athlon 64 X2 dual core processors."

AMD has a number of software parters…including Orb, Network Magic and Streamload. How does Live differ from Intel's Viiv?

"The key differences are first of all performance. Also important is AMD's value. Systems from AMD are priced so that they really provide a tremdendous value to the end user."

Both AMD and Intel may benefit….by the roll out of the next version of Windows…which will need more computing power to run….now scheduled for early next year. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
