Your Notebook's a House for the Latest Mouse

Techstination feature for Wednesday, June 28, 2006

Your notebook's a house…for the latest mouse. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It may be the oddest looking computer mouse on the market. The MoGo from Newton Peripherals….is a new wireless mouse that uses Bluetooth wireless technology. The unique features… it is flat…so it fits inside a PC card slot where it is stored and re-charged. It has a fold out tab that elevates the rear when it is in the mouse mode. CEO Matthew Westover says the design was a challenge…

"We had to make the mouse go from being a clamshell, very thick mouse, to fitting inside five millimeters, inside of the network card slot. And the mouse will actually run for a few days under normal use. You could use it consistently if you never stopped moving it the entire day and not lose the charge. And then at the end of the day, you can put it in the slot and it will recharge, effectively giving you continuous use."

It doesn't look like it would comfortable enough to use, but looks can be deceiving. It's designed for people who've become frustrated with the pointing device built into their notebook PCs. And the advantages over other mice made for notebooks..

"It's portability and mobility. Around the laptop world, people don't have room in their bags to put extra devices like mice and other things."

Keep in mind, you either need built in Bluetooth or an add on USB dongle. The MoGo will sell for about seventy dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
