Samsung Focuses on Digital Cameras

Techstination feature for Tuesday, July 4, 2006

Samsung brings its focus to digital cameras. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Samsung has become well known for a variety of consumer electronics products….everything from flat screen TVs….to DVD and MP3 players. Now the division of the company that makes digital cameras…is looking to become one of the leading brands. National marketing manager Stewart Henderson says the new NV …or New Vision…. line of products is designed to help accomplish that…

"The style is totally unique. The user interface is totally unique. For the consumers it's going to be no more scrolling through a myriad of menus. We call it a touch and click feature on the cameras. It's almost like a touch screen, but it's not. The style of the camera is almost industrial, a matte black finish…really small form factors. Extended zoom lenses, we have one that's up to a 7X optical zoom."

That will be the NV7. The NV3 is a pocket sized six megapixel model…that includes the ability to play MP3 music….and video as well. It's expected to sell for about 350 dollars. Samsung is also looking to make inroads in the digital SLR market….where Nikon and Canon have dominated. The company is partnering with Pentax….

"The GX 1L is our entry level DSLR… 599.00…and the GX 1S is 699." With lenses? "Yes, it comes with an 18-55 lens."

Samsung's goal to become one of the top three digital camera makers in the world. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
