Memory Makers Look Forward to Windows Vista

Memory makers look forward to Windows Vista. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Microsoft will be launching a big campaign to push the next version of Windows…Vista….when it arrives early next year. New Vista equipped PCs will be loaded with memory… least one gigabyte and in many cases two…to be able to run it. And consumers who want to upgrade to Vista…will be buying more memory. At Samsung, the number one maker of memory chips, marketing director Tom Trill says many people are reluctant to open up their PCs to add memory. Some retail stores will be working with Microsoft to help consumers. Beyond that, a new feature in Vista, will allow consumers to boost available memory without opening their PCs….

"Microsoft has built a very innovative feature into Vista and they've called it ReadyBoost. This allows a user to utilize a USB flash drive as supplemental memory for your computer. The system, Vista, will ask you what you want to do with this flash memory. Would you like to use it for traditional storage or would you like to use it to optimize your system. And you have that choice. So you can supplement your memory with your flash drive."

And while using a flash drive may slow down performance a bit… it will be an improvement over the use of hard drive space for added memory. Even if you aren't planning to move to Windows Vista any time soon…adding memory is one of the most cost effective ways to improve computer performance. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
