Controlling Your PC From Anywhere

Techstination feature for Friday, July 16, 1999

Connecting your PC at home with that computer at the office. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Symantec's pcAnywhere is now in its ninth generation and it still amazes people who are using it for the first time. What it does, simply, is let you take full control of a remote computer over the phone or over the Internet. Product manager Kim Paszkowski....

"It allows you to connect to a PC from any location. So say, for example, you have an office PC. Maybe you're a road warrior or a mobile worker that needs to connect back to that home PC or maybe office PC from the road or a hotel room, it's as if you're sitting in front of that PC that you're connecting to."

And if you have access to the Internet, you can connect without any long distance charges. Get your inter-office email, even print files to your office computer. Some of the changes in version 9....

"PC Anywhere is easier to use, of course it's faster than the last version. The last version that was out was version 8.0 which was put out probably about 18 months or so ago. Due to a lot of customer feedback, we made it a little bit easier to use. The file transfer UI is enhanced, made it simple to use, you have your drag and drop file transfer. Compression is enhanced. Screen painting is enhanced, so everything is faster when you do make a connection."

With a rebate, pcAnywhere sells for under a hundred dollars. You can find more information at symantec.com.
