Lower prices on LCD TVs. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Sharp, the consumer electronics company that essentially created the LCD TV business with its Aquos brand, is out with the first TVs produced by its new Kameyama 2 factory in Japan. The plant enables bigger screens at lower prices. Senior VP Bob Scaglione….

"What makes it exciting is it's the first two LCTVs that are being produced out of an 8th generation factory. And that means that the mother glass, the piece of glass where individual panels are cut from is much larger than previous mother glass panels. What that allows us to do is get eight 46 inch TVs or six 52 inch TVs out of one piece of glass and this dramatically increases our efficiencies, which will in turn make a more affordable product for the consumer."

The new 46 and 52 inch TVs are capable of displaying true 1080P high definition and are priced at about 35 hundred dollars and 48 hundred dollars…

"A dramatic decrease in price from even two years ago when we introduced a 45 inch product that was 8499.00. So the product not only is more affordable for the consumer, but the specifications are much better as well."

Sharp is hoping the new factory will help it regain market share the company has lost to Sony and its Bravia line over the last year….and will put LCD screens in the same price league as plasma TVs. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
