Can the Wii Win?

Can The Wii Win? Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Nintendo's GameCube trailed Sony's PlayStation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox in the last video game console generation…when it came to sales. This time around…vows Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils Aime….will be different. While Microsoft and Sony have focused on high definition graphics….and souped up processors….Nintendo's plan is to get more consumers interested in games. How? It's TV remote shaped wireless controller can be used like a baseball bat…or a tennis racket…. making games more fun and less twitch. The Wii console…that's w-i-i….can display family photos…turn them into puzzles…and automatically retrieve news, weather and other content from the Internet…and acts as a messaging device as well…

"The strategy is straight forward. We want everybody to be able to access the Wii every day. Everyone in the household, every day. That's very different from our competitors that are focusing on predominantly game content."

At game maker Activision….which will have five titles available at launch for the Wii… executive vice president Robin Kaminsky ….thinks the console race this time will be closer…

"I think Nintendo took a very smart, strategic approach and looked at the market and said, okay, these guys are here, where is the opportunity for us, and they've developed something very different."

In the U.S., the Wii goes on sale November 19th for about 250 dollars. That's half the price…of Sony's cheapest PlayStation 3, which will arrive two days earlier.
