Some New Twists for Acrobat

Techstination feature for Wednesday, September 27, 2006

Some new twists for Acrobat. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Adobe Systems is adding new features to its Acrobat software….enabling PDF documents….which have become a standard for portability…to become even more versatile. Acrobat Professional 8….will enable the creation of interactive forms…that can be filled out online….and will let data from documents to be moved into other formats…such as Microsoft Excel or Word. Adobe senior vice president Tom Hale…

"We're putting PDF forms kind of into the reach of kind of the everyman. So a small company, a company without major IT resources can create PDF forms, send them out, have people fill them out and collect the data."

You've more than likely used PDF to look at a variety of documents online using the free Acrobat reader...

"The main change for them is going to be the updated user experience. They're going to look at it, it's going to look cleaner, it's going to feel lighter, it'll feel more streamlined."

Another new feature is being called Acrobat Connect to enable online conferencing and collaboration…

"The value of this is pretty straight forward. You basically are saving the time and money you would have spent on travel. But you could have a Web conference where you are sharing information and reviewing documents and going over presentations and collaborating."

The new software arrives next month. Adobe plans to charge 39 dollars a month for unlimited use of the Connect service…that can include 15 participants at a time….but a free trial will be available through the end of the year. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
