New Media Phones From Nokia

Techstination feature for Wednesday, October 18, 2006

New media phones…from Nokia. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It may take a while to reach the U.S. market….but the new N95 from Nokia… shows you what a cell phone can do. It has a built in 5 megapixel camera…..can shoot DVD quality video at 30 frames per second…..can connect to broadband cell phone service…or to WiFi wireless Internet connections…..and includes global GPS capability. It is due to go on sale….early next year in Europe and Asia…costing…without figuring in provider discounts…at about 700 dollars. A lot of phone…for a lot of money. A more modest new phone….for the U.S. market is the N75. Nokia's Keith Nowak…

"The N75 is a thin, fold style smartphone, two megapixel camera, a lot of memory capacity for music, but also a lot of high resolution images. So a compact smartphone."

The price…without a carrier discount…will be about 400 dollars. Nokia is going after the higher end….where companies like Motorola and LG have focused much of their efforts. The company has also announced a free service called Music Recommenders….

"And this is a new service we have where we're working with forty independent record shops around the world, that are really focused on different genres. And people that sign up, they can actually get individual recommendations."

With some songs available to be downloaded right to your phone. The N75 phone can store up to 15 hundred songs…on an optional 2 gigabyte microSD card. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
