The Breakthrough Awards from Popular Mechanics. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Popular Mechanics is out with its second annual issue…highlighting what it sees as the breakthrough innovations of the past year…

"And what we're trying to do is basically honor some of the people we think ought to get more recognition as the real heroes in our society. The scientists and engineers who are trying to use technology to make the world a better place."

"Who has really demonstrated in recent years that it doesn't take a massive government operation to launch space travel. First with his Spaceship One craft which is the first viable private spacecraft. And now with the recently unveiled Spaceship Two which will ultimately be able to take passengers into space and start opening the door for a wider range of approaches to the challenge of exploring space. Another award goes to the MIT professor Angela Belcher who led a team of nanotechnology specialists to literally harness the power of viruses to start creating the components to incredibly tiny batteries, it's a viral battery."
