Techstination feature for Monday, October 30, 2006

A global music competition…via the Web. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With the popularity of sites like MySpace and YouTube, the Web continues to grow as a source of community and entertainment. A site called Music Nation is hoping to tap into that growth….partnering with Clear Channel Radio and some big names in the recording industry…. to launch an online video music competition. Chief Marketing Officer Lucas Mann…

"Musicians and artists and bands…singer song writers are empowered an enabled to enter our contest and at the end of it win an actual recording contract with major labels. So with Sony BMG Epic Records in the United States and with Mercury Records in the U.K., Europe and Latin America and EMI in Asia. Singers, bands come to the site, upload their videos, create an artist profile page and have their friends, family and the public vote on their videos."

From mid-November until the end of the year, the contest will be free to enter, after that there will be a 25 dollar fee. And for the first 12 weeks…

"The videos will be voted on by the public and by a panel of celebrity judges. And each week, two winners in each category will move on to the quarter finals. After the 15 week contest, three singers or bands will have recording contracts."
