"We felt at Nintendo we should take a different direction as a way to grow our business and also to grow the industry, to try to bring in many people who either hadn't played video games for a while because they felt intimidated or people who had maybe never played games. And we've been successful doing that with the Nintendo DS over the last couple of years. So we're optimistic we can do the same thing for the Wii console."
Keep in mind, even though the console is priced at 250 dollars….plan on spending at least another 40 dollars for an additional controller…
"Certainly we think everyone will want to buy at least one additional controller. We're packing in a game, the Wii Play Sports game, which is really multiplayer in its focus, tennis and bowling and baseball and boxing are all included on that one game disc. In terms of the additional games, beyond the free one packed in, we think people by the end of March have purchased somewhere between two to four games."
Games will cost about fifty dollars apiece. So while the Wii is less expensive than the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360, initial investments will still for the most part be in the three to four hundred dollar range. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
