Finding Shopping Deals Online

Techstination feature for Monday, November 27, 2006

It's that time of year when shoppers start clicking. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. According to a survey by Forrester Research….nearly one out of every five consumers says their most frequent shopping destination this holiday season….will be the Internet. The estimate is that U.S. online retail sales this season will reach 27 billion dollars….up more than 20 percent from last year. More and more Web sites are designed to help find the bargains out there. Dan de Grandpre is the founder and CEO of DealNews.com….a site that started out with a Mac focus….

"And it's now kind of a men's lifestyle site aimed at techie gadget people, finding the best deals on LCD TVs, iPods and so forth with a particular angle… we only list deals that are absolutely the lowest price that we can find. Regardless of whether we have a physical relationship with a store, regardless of anything else other than it's a reputable store."

The information goes beyond what's available online. DealNews provides the latest on bargains in physical stores and warehouse clubs…such as Costco as well..

"At a PriceGrabber, you go and say I want to look for this particular item. You type it in, you search for it and you find prices on that item. What we do is tell you about what's just fallen in price right now."

DealNews still has a Mac focused site…at Dealmac.com and a new site for women's fashions at her.dealnews. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
