Techie Toys for Kids

Techstination feature for Thursday, December 21, 2006

Techie toys for kids. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. These days lots of kids are walking around with the same tech toys mom and dad have. Cell phones, MP3 players. And toy companies are taking notice…creating their own versions of digital cameras and music players…for kids as young as three. At Digital Blue…which has been a tech toy company from the start with some products having their roots at Intel….CEO Tim Hall has forged partnerships with Disney and The Smithsonian for new kid gadgets. On the camera front…the resolution is surprising…

"The high end camera that I'm holding right here is a 79 dollar camera. It's a three megapixel camera just like the one that I have at home, but this one's uniquely for kids because when you look at the view screen you can actually see pictures of Disney characters that you can integrate with your photos."

That's one thing that separates it from grown up cameras. Another is it's been ruggedized to survive drops. Digital Blue has also updated its computer microscope…the QX5…

"This year we've launched the Smithsonian Microscope, which is a full function, computer microscope, you connect it to your PC. It's got terrific resolution, really great lighting. So you can look at any sample under 10, 60 or 200 magnification, and it will project right on your PC."

The price, is under eighty dollars. You can find more information at playdigitalblue.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
